Eid Ul Fitr Around The World


It is a public holiday in China celebrated even by Han Chinese population. It is on this day; private as well as public organizations distribute mutton and beef as a part of welfare scheme.

Muslims in Yunan province after their morning prayers visit Sayyid Ajjal's grave. There, people read the holy Quran and clean the tomb followed by stories depicting Sayyid Ajal's achievements. Later, people offer a special service to commemorate thousands of Muslims killed during the Qing Dynasty and Cultural Revolution.


All the Nigerians irrespective of their religions take part in this festival. Here, Eid-ul-Fitr is known as 'Small Sallah' (Hausa Language). After communal prayers people visit their families and enjoy a grand feast. This federal holiday is for two days.


Eid-ul-Fitr or 'Eyde Fetr' is considered to be a private affair in Iran. This is the day for charity and the rich families donate young calf or lamb for sacrifice also known as 'ghorbani'. Communal prayers are held in every mosques and public places.


The most sacred place for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr is Jama Masjid in New Delhi. Women decorate their hands with traditional 'henna' and indulge themselves in shopping spree. A traditional food known as 'sivayyan' is served. It is a dish of fine vermicelli noodles with milk and dry fruits. People also pay 'Zakat' during this time and attend the communal prayer. It is a national holiday in India and people visit families and friends while enjoying a lavish feat. The same tradition is followed in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
